Two things stand out in 2026. Mars never turns retrograde all year, which is unusual and means drive and momentum run clean the whole way through. And October and November carry a Mercury retrograde and a Venus retrograde at the same time, both in Scorpio, both turning direct on November 13. Planets in Retrograde in 2027

Venus does not turn retrograde at all in 2027. It only does so about once every eighteen months, which is why the October 2026 cycle got so much attention.

The headline for 2027 is Mars. It reverses on January 10 for the first time in two years and stays retrograde until April 1, landing squarely in the stretch when most people are pushing hardest on new goals.

How Often and How Long

Speed decides everything here. The faster the planet, the more often it turns and the shorter it lasts.

Notice what that means. The outer planets are retrograde for close to half of every year, which is why nobody talks about them the way they talk about Mercury. If a planet was retrograde on the day you were born, it stays retrograde in your birth chart for life. That is a natal retrograde, and it is far more common than most people assume.
