Chinese New Year foods that bring luck

The Chinese New Year is starting on Saturday, January 28 and will run for about two weeks. There are many ways to celebrate and bring in luck, heath and prosperity in the new year. In China, there are parades and special foods. This coming year will be the year of the Fire Rooster. There are many different types of roosters Foods play an important part of any culture's celebrations, in the Chinese New Year, the number of different dishes and types of foods are thought to bring goodness into the new year. 

In the Chinese New Year celebration, families eat a feast that can include multiple dishes. Eight different dishes represents prosperity and nine dishes represents infinity. Four dishes is not recommended because the word sounds similar to the word death. Seven dishes are also not recommended because seven is a number of the deceased. 

Fish are important symbolic foods for the Chinese New Year. Fish is thought to increase prosperity. Chinese dumplings are thought to increase wealth in the new year. A rice cake  also is thought to increase more money or a better position in society. Sweet rice balls for being together with family. Long noodles for happiness. Citrus fruit for wealth. Sweets or candy for a sweet life and peanuts for longevity.
