Chakra Colors Meanings

You've probably heard the word bandied about in the wellness community. Balancing your chakras. Aligning your chakras. Sound familiar?

But what exactly is a chakra anyway? Does it matter in my everyday life? Should I bother learning more about this esoteric concept?

The short answer: absolutely yes!

Chakras have the power to transform your life. That's exactly why you hear spiritually connected professionals like yoga teachers and massage therapists talk about them.

But to reap the full benefits of chakra healing, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the chakra colors.

Want to learn more? Well, keep reading for the ultimate guide to the different kinds of chakra colors. Let's dive in.

What Is a Chakra?

Let's start with the basics.

Chakras refer to energy centers in the body. traditionally come from ancient Indian scriptures called the Vedas. In Sanskrit, the word means 'wheel', or disk. Each disk or wheel is abounding spinny energy, which corresponds to different nerves and organs.

Chakras are essentially a source of pranic energy contained within the curve of the spin. All in all, there are seven chakras.

These begin at the base of the back and move towards the neck.

Each chakra has its unique power points and affects our growth in different ways. There are also different colors, names, and crystals associated with each chakra.

Why Are Chakras Important?

Well, think of it this way. Every living being has energy centers. And these centers are spinning and rotating on an everyday basis!

Chakras are the root of our happiness, consciousness, stress, tension, liveliness, and more. For example, if you feel pained or hurt in a friendship, you'll feel it in your heart. This can affect other functioning such as bladder, mental exhaustion, and more.

No one wants that, right?

Well, to avoid getting impacted by these life events, you need to balance your chakras. Practicing chakra healing restores vitality to the body. It helps us overcome weakness, depression, anxiety, tiredness, and physical ailments.

What can you expect with healed chakras?

Well, you'll move with ease through the world. You'll have a positive outlook on life, feel lit from within, and benefit from increased confidence. Nothing will hold you back anymore.

But to get there, you need to be able to harness each chakra color to your advantage. Only then will you reach a balanced state of being, with your chakras there to boost your personal well-being.

The Seven Chakras

There are seven chakras in our chakra system. To get your chakras in alignment, you need to know how they work!

And if you're wondering, 'what color is my chakra', the sections below will break it down for you!

Red: The Root Chakra

The root chakra is easily found at the base of your spine, near your tail bone.

The Muladhara chakra represents your foundation. It gives us the feeling of groundedness and controls survival instincts including finances, money, shelter, and food.

The root chakra develops between the ages of 1-7 years and is associated with the hematite stone and earth element.

The red chakra offers you support for all your activities. It also supplies prana or energy to all the other chakra within the body. An imbalance of this chakra can lead to the building of resentment, negativity, and even anger.

Why is it important? Well, you need a balanced root chakra to ensure that you have the persistence and strength to get through life's trials and tribulations.

When this chakra is open, you'll experience all kinds of stability - emotional, mental, physical, and financial.

You can ground yourself and the root chakra easily. Visualize the red light in the spine region. Meditate, or do some breathwork, and repeat positive affirmations to yourself.

Affirmations like 'I am safe', or 'I am present' will do the trick in getting you to slow down and practice presence.

Orange: The Sacral Chakra

This chakra is located an inch or two below your belly button.

The Swadhisthana chakra is related to emotions- to how we engage with others and ourselves. It controls sexual energy, abundance, pleasure, and well-being.

The stone associated with this chakra is the tiger's eye, while the element is water. It develops between the ages of 8 to 14 years.

The sacral chakra is the center of all our joyful and creative endeavors! It allows us to explore while supplying the zest for life that aids exploration.

It is essentially feminine energy that connects you to your physical and sexual development. When balanced, this chakra offers you a healthy attitude towards yourself and others. It also boosts sexual energy and relationships.

When the sacral chakra is balanced, you'll feel independent, optimistic, and playful. But an imbalance will lead to dysfunction, repression, and obsessive emotions and attachments.

An affirmation like 'I am powerful', or 'I am creative', will help summon the sacral energy.

Yellow: The Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra can be found between the sternum and the naval (on your stomach).

The Manipura chakra is all about confidence and self-worth! It controls our self-esteem, and keeping feelings of shame and doubt away.

The solar plexus chakra develops in young adulthood, between the ages of 15 and 21. It is represented by the amber stone and fire element.

This chakra is the key to your success. It manages your ambition, willpower, and the respect you command. Those with a balanced solar plexus feel independent, strong, and confident.

They know their worth and work on themselves through exercise, better habits, and skill development. And most importantly - they are striving to be the best version of themselves possible.

An imbalance of this chakra can lead to pent-up aggression and unhappiness. You might feel unfulfilled, competitive, and that things never go your way. One way to change that is to focus on eating more yellow-colored foods.

This will keep the associated stubbornness and resentment away while tapping into the power of this amazing chakra.

Green: The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is, you guessed it, located at the center of the chest!

The heart chakra, or Anahata, is the bridge between the upper and lower chakras. It thus connects materiality (lower chakras) and spirituality (upper chakras). It influences our ability to open up and experience love, happiness, and peace.

It develops between 21-28 years of age. It is associated with the element of air, and the rose quartz stone.

The heart chakra is the center that guides us. It helps us connect to both the external and the internal. The green chakra allows us to strike an intrinsic balance, which can transform into a higher vibration.

Many of us lack the balance that comes with this chakra. As such, we may experience isolation, alienation, cruelty, and feelings of co-dependence. No one wants to feel that way!

One way to heal yourself is to get out in nature. Seeing aspects of nature like trees, animals and earth offer balance and grounding. You'll then benefit from self-love, wisdom, friendliness, and a connection between the mind, body, and soul.

Blue: The Throat Chakra

You can find this chakra between the base of your throat to the center or your eyes.

The Vishuddha chakra is all about communication, expression, and self-truth. It gives a voice to what we're feeling.

It develops between 29 to 35 years of age and is associated with music and the aquamarine stone.

The blue chakra helps us express our innate desires, needs, and feelings. It refers to conscious expression. This requires intense honesty, kindness, and generosity - both to the self and to others.

When this chakra is balanced, you'll experience ease in communication. You'll stand up for yourself, make quick and easy decisions, and express yourself when you want.

Many people experience shyness, reticence, or embarrassment in day-to-day life. This may indicate an unbalanced blue chakra! This can also find itself in the physical body, causing thyroid, teeth, and neck problems.

Balance it with meditation and throat-chakra stones when you meditate. Another way to do this is to do that thing you've been putting off.

Send that risky email or ask your crush out on a date. These simple actions will energize you and activate the throat chakra quickly.

Indigo: The Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra is located at the center of the forehead.

The Anja chakra controls our intuition. It also affects our imagination and wisdom! Expect this one to develop by the age of 42. It is related to the amethyst stone, and the element of light.

The indigo chakra is all about those spiritual and esoteric experiences. How open are you to new experiences and phenomena? How connected are you to the world around you?

To balance the third eye, you'll need to give into those spiritual feelings. Try to meditate or ground yourself. This way, you'll benefit from the peace and wisdom that comes with this chakra. You'll also feel more at ease with the world.

Why?

Because you'll have an Inner Spirit to guide you along your journey. We can't state the power of intuition enough!

An imbalance, on the other hand, will lead to you feeling stuck. You'll have difficulty feeling happy, creative, or imaginative. In addition, there might be a monotonous way of thinking, characterized by a lack of perspective.

Some easy ways to heal your third eye is practicing Kundalini yoga and trying sound healing or a sound bath. Essential oils like frankincense also really help!

Violet: The Crown Chakra

And lastly, find the crown chakra two inches above the top of your head.

The Sahasrara chakra is the hardest chakra to open up. It is the gateway to accessing a higher consciousness!

It can be represented by clear quartz and has the element of divine consciousness. It develops between the ages of 43 and 49.

The violet chakra is known as the crown lotus. Very few people get to achieve an opening of this chakra in their lifetime.

That is because this chakra is related to a supreme kind of consciousness, one that transcends the world and everything we know.

When it is balanced, you'll experience an intense connection with nature, the universe, and everything in between. You won't be burdened by your ego or attachment. This chakra opens up all the energy in the body, and your chakras will be in perfect alignment.

In addition to feeling a connection with the Divine or spiritual, your awareness and faith will open up too.

When imbalanced, you'll experience mental illness, greed, and disassociation from reality. While it can be challenging to totally open up this chakra, you can try to keep it neutral. This will avoid any crises, additions, and suicidal tendencies.

Visualize the violet color emanating from your head. Use the power you feel in a meditation to help access this chakra with ease.
