EMPATHS – TRULY EXPERIENCING ANOTHER PERSON’S FEELINGS

Empathy is often the first sign of simmering psychic abilities that may lurk below the surface. When psychic abilities are undeveloped and empathic experiences occur, it may be confusing for the person involved.
Ask yourself: Do you feel uneasy around certain people? Do you feel strong emotions – sad or happy, etc. – that you can’t really explain? Do you have unexplained headaches, dizzy spells, sleeping disorders, or strange mood swings? Do you see flashes of light? Do you have an uncanny ability for spotting what someone really means? Are you a human lie detector? Do you have difficulty or feel panic in a crowd? Crowds may be problematic for Empaths. This is because Empaths may often pick up multiple emotions and actually may experience “crowd sickness.â€
An example of something that an Empath might feel comes from personal experience. Recently one weekend, I was very weepy and couldn’t figure it out. I cried when I got the mail. I cried when petting my dog. Gentle tears – not hysteria! My life was quiet (for the moment). I couldn’t figure out why I was so teary. Then on Tuesday, I got an email from my cousin advising me that my Aunt had been rushed to the hospital that weekend. Everyone was very upset because she had pneumonia – not a good thing for someone with lung cancer. She was released to Hospice and passed away within the month. The weepiness was explained. I was picking up the sadness from family members thousands of miles away and was feeling the sadness of the situation before I knew of the event.
Remember, not every empathic experience is sad. Also, there may not necessarily be a requirement for action on your part.
It is very important for Empaths to examine their feelings and make sure that they apply to the situation or people at hand. Be patient for situations to be revealed in a traditional way (like the above-mentioned email). Do not drive yourself crazy looking for immediate answers. Most things will be revealed to you when the Universe decides it is time.
When you are an Empath, you have to learn to protect yourself from the feelings of others. The constant influx of emotions from other people when combined with your own emotions can often cause anxiety, sleeplessness, depression, nightmares, unexplained headaches, dizzy spells, strange visions, flashes of light, and other physical symptoms.
If you have strange physical symptoms, you – of course, should be checked by a Doctor. However, many times Empaths are told that there is nothing physically wrong that they could find. All this means is that you may have psychic talents that need to be understood and used carefully.
If you don’t understand the difference between being an Empath (truly experience someone else’s feelings) and feeling normal empathy for someone’s situation, it can be very confusing. Some Empaths may actually turn into hermits because they can’t handle or don’t understand the emotional floodgates that hit them whenever they are around others.
Do not confuse empathy with emotional contagion, sympathy, or telepathy. When you feel sympathy, you wish to see a person feel better. Emotional contagion is the intense emotions that happen at a Rock Concert. Telepathy is the ability to know how someone feels because the other person’s mind is being read – there is a difference between knowing and feeling. For example, you should know a fire is hot without putting your hand into it.
Developing a shield to protect yourself from too much information is sometimes necessary for Empaths. A common way to do this is to simply visualize a white or gold energy shield around your physical and mental being. This shield usually provides protection. The mind is a wonderful thing indeed.
Another exercise that can provide relief is that when you take a shower; imagine the water is a magnet that is pulling away negativity. As you let the water cascade down your body, just tell yourself to “release.†This is a great way to cleanse both mind and body.
Once an Empath understands their gift, a lot of things in their life that seemed strange suddenly make sense. Understanding and using the shield or cleansing exercise described may be a valuable tool to assist you through the challenges of daily life.
